This was my families first P&O Cruise and we are so glad that we chose Britannia, there is so much to do for the adults, but for those of us with kids there is so much on offer for our little ones. P&O offer Kids clubs at no extra charge, which considering the facilities we thought this was fantastic and our little ones loved every minute.
P&O’s onboard kids club is called The Reef and is divided into four different age groups. ‘Splashers’ for 2-4 year olds, ‘Surfers’ for 5-8 year olds, ‘Scubas’ for 9-12 year olds and last but by no means least ‘h20’ for 13-17 year olds. The kids club offers a vast variety of activities for the children, from board games to video consoles and computers, to movie night and karaoke. The Children are very well catered for. The staff that work in The Reef are all qualified Nursery Nurses and have been DBS vetted, which is an added reassurance as we all want to know that our children are in good hands. We found the staff to be extremely friendly, bubbly, loving individuals who went above and beyond to make our children’s experience at The Reef fun and enjoyable.
Britannia also offered a Night Nursery for children as young as 6 months up to the age of 4. I had no idea before travelling that this service was available, I hope that P&O don’t start charging for this service as they do on some other cruise lines whereby babysitting services are not included and if you do require a babysitter you will have to pay an additional fee. Children are allowed to take their blankets, small soft toys, anything that they usually have that will help them to sleep. This is great for us parents as it allows us to truly unwind, have dinner, have a drink at the bar, or watch one the amazing shows on board. As you can imagine the Night Nursery is very popular and if you would like your child to use the Nursery you will have to book a place with the Youth Team the night before, you have up to 9pm to do this. When you drop your child off at the night nursery you will be given a pager should you need to be contacted.
We were not sure whether our children needed to be potty trained but we needn’t have worried. The staff in the kids club will change your child but you will have to fill out a consent form at the time of registration. As with a normal nursery you will have to provide a changing bag with spare nappies and wipes.
The opening times for the The Reef vary dependent on the cruise on which you are sailing, however we found on our cruise The Reef was open between the hours of 9:00am to 11:00pm during sea days. The night nursery is open from approximately 6:00pm through to 2am but the times are clearly indicated at the entrance to The Reef located on deck 17 portside, directly behind the Gym. The opening times for our sailing are detailed below:
In order for your child to be able to use the kids club you will be required to complete a registration form and at least one parent or guardian must remain on-board with your child at all times. The kids club has a secure entry system and you will be required to sign your child in and out of the club that they are attending. You will need to bring your ship ID card with you at all times.
Did i say THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE for the children’s clubs. Our children really enjoyed kids club and I’am sure your children will too. If you have any additional questions about the kids club on board Britannia, please don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
